"The Blue Light" is the title track from Peter Calandra's upcoming album (release date June 16, 2023) and is being released as a single ahead of the full album. (I will be reviewing the album very soon, so this review is focusing on the single only.) A true master of the piano and keyboards as well as composition, Peter's music is impossible to categorize by genre or style, although the very broad spectrum of jazz is about as close as you can get. "The Blue Light" is a soothing, relaxed piano solo that is expressed in a way that feels improvised and spontaneous - much like an open and honest conversation with a close, trusted friend. Some of the passages in the piece are very quiet and simple, while others are more embellished, never distracting from the overall mood of quiet contentment and ease.
