Review by Kathy Parsons
“Marta’s Dream” is a fascinating new single by Argentinian pianist/composer Uriel Pascucci. What makes the music so interesting is the mix of classical structure and instrumentation juxtaposed with that of jazz. A series of varied vignettes flow from one to the next much like seemingly unrelated dreams that can weave in and out of one’s nighttime experience. On this piece, Uriel performs on piano, celesta, keyboards and synths. Other artists on the piece include Bruno Migliari on bass, Santiago Ortolá on drums and Guilliame Muller on guitar. The single was mixed by Jason Ruch at Zero By One Sound Studio and mastered by James Forbes at Vortex Music Productions.

“Marta’s Dream” begins with a fluttering effect that could be huge swarm of butterflies or rose petals falling out of clouds (hey - it’s a dream!). The piano enters with some rapid runs up and down the piano keyboard before shifting to a piano solo that seems to be exploring the keyboard, possibly in search of something. Electric guitar steps in with some shimmering keyboard effects and bass behind it. The next theme becomes more mysterious and somewhat uneasy before building to almost a nightmare scenario with organ, piano and full orchestra. The piece gradually changes to strings seemingly looking for something before the piano again takes a dramatic lead with orchestration behind it. Another big change is drums, electric guitar and piano going in a much jazzier direction while uplifting the spirit of the dream. The last section is a quiet piano solo that trails off at the end. There are many other changes within the piece, but this gives you an idea of some of the dramatic shifts in the music - and yet it all works seamlessly.

“Marta’s Dream” is available to stream or download on Amazon and Apple Music/iTunes as well as on many streaming services including Spotify and Pandora. Check it out!
