“Blue Aura” is a very expressive piano solo composed by award-winning pianist/composer/educator Carol Comune. The piece was jointly commissioned by the New Jersey Music Teachers Association and Music Teachers National Association and was published in 2022. The recording of “Blue Aura” was included in Carol’s 2025 album, Voice in the Mirror, and is currently available as a single on Amazon as well as on streaming platforms including Spotify. An active and high-level music teacher herself, Carol has maintained her teaching studios since 1973 and teaches and coaches students and pianists at all levels.

Quoting the preface to the sheet music, “The blue aura is a symbol of spirituality, peace, calmness, serenity, and tranquility.” That doesn’t mean the music is ambient - it definitely has a pulse and the playing style changes from “pensive” to “lyrical” to “peaceful” to “molto rubato with passion” (and other expressive styles) throughout the piece. Those styling changes are clearly marked as is much of the fingering and pedaling.

“Blue Aura” is in the key of C minor (3 flats) for most of its six pages, changing to E flat minor (6 flats) for the last ten measures. I would put the advancement level at upper-intermediate because of the expressive quality of the music and the challenging key signature change near the end.
