Winter is the companion sheet music book for Gerald Krampl's 2024 solo piano recording by the same name. The collection is made up of ten traditional Christmas carols and "wintersongs" plus one of Krampl's original compositions ("In The Morning Still [1st Variation]"), all arranged for solo piano. Krampl's arrangements are not overly complicated or difficult to play. They emphasize the beauty of the melodies while adding some original touches that personalize them a bit. I have also reviewed the recording, so if you want to refer to that,
here is the link. While all of the music relates to the Christmas holidays and winter season, there are no Santa songs, which is part of what makes the songbook (and album) so refreshing. It's a really nice collection and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
Most of the eleven pieces in the songbook are at an intermediate playing level. They are all arranged in easier keys (no more than two sharps or flats in the key signature). There are no reaches of more than an octave, and there really aren't that many chords - mostly single notes and intervals on both hands. Most of the pieces have metronome settings and pedaling suggestions, and the phrasing is very clearly marked. Only one of the songs is four pages long, three are two pages, and the others are three. The layout of the sheet music is very well-spaced and easy to read. I would think that this would be a really good collection for advancing piano students - especially adults - as well as pianists at an intermediate to upper-intermediate playing level.
