The Advent & Christmas Collection songbook is a collection of thirteen of the piano solos from Gerald Krampl's 2019 album, Advent & Christmas (Solo Piano Variations). Like the recording, the pieces are placed in a liturgical order from early Advent through Christmas night, offering a subtle but fascinating contrast in the moods of the two periods of time. The arrangements are not difficult to play, and most pianists at an intermediate to upper-intermediate playing level should be able to master them fairly easily. Because the music is not overly complicated, the beauty of the melodies shines through, making the music satisfying and fun to play as well as to listen to. Most of the pieces are traditional and in the public domain, but Krampl composed "Angel Passing By" and "Shelter For The Night," which are both beautiful.

The layout of the sheet music is roomy and easy to read. There are only a few dynamics, but phrasing and pedaling are marked, as are the metronome settings. The pieces are relatively short, from 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 pages, making them excellent teaching pieces and/or recital pieces. This is a really nice collection and I will enjoy having some seasonal music that isn't so familiar!
