Review by Kathy Parsons
All Through The Night is the companion sheet music collection to Pam Asberry’s 2019 album by the same name. A collection of lullabies (four are original compositions and eight are original arrangements of classical pieces and traditional melodies from around the world), the music is soothing, tender and relaxing to play. Asberry did the transcriptions herself, ensuring that they are as she intended. The book is available as a spiral-bound hard-copy or as a download, and individual pieces can also be downloaded. Because the pieces are slow, open and uncluttered, they are not difficult to play. Most of them are also fairly short, so pianists at an intermediate to early-advanced level should be able to master most (if not all) of the twelve pieces without much difficulty. The straight-forward style of the music also encourages pianists to play with tonal color and to add their own personal expression, making it a very satisfying session at the piano.

The book includes a description of each piece and a short bio of Pam Asberry. The front and back covers are full-color reproductions of the album artwork. All but one of the scores has a metronome setting, and all have pedaling suggestions and plenty of dynamics. Asberry is a long-time piano teacher and her expertise is apparent. I have really enjoyed my time with this lovely songbook and highly recommend it for personal enjoyment and for teaching material. It is available from Pam's website.
