The Reflection songbook is the companion sheet music book to Shoshana Michel’s 2019 album release by the same name. All eleven pieces from the album are included, transcribed by the artist and edited/proofed by me. The beautiful artwork from the CD graces the front and back covers of the book, which is spiral-bound. The notation is roomy, well-spaced and easy to read. As the title of the book implies, most of the music is fairly slow and reflective. Beautiful melodies and heartfelt expression are a big part of each piece, and the moods vary from light and happy to darker and more pensive. Playing instructions and metronome markings are at the beginning of each piece, and there are no reaches of more than an octave. The playing levels are quite consistent from piece to piece, ranging from upper-intermediate to early-advanced. None of the key signatures or rhythms are difficult for fairly experienced pianists. The music is expressive and very enjoyable to play - always a plus!

The book includes an introductory page with notes about the music, suggestions for playing and “thank you’s” written by Shoshana Michel. At the back of the book, there is a bio and a photo of the artist. It’s a beautiful book and I highly recommend it!
