Review by Kathy Parsons
"A Graceful Splash" is the sheet music for Suzanne Herman's beautiful solo piano single by the same name. Slow, smooth and very graceful, the piece is a joy to play and should be fairly easy to learn for pianists at an intermediate playing level and above. A piano teacher herself, Suzanne has included phrasing and fingering, making the music somewhat easier to learn and play as intended.
Suzanne Herman explains the origins of the music:
"Whale watching is an incredible experience, especially in Antarctica! Seeing whales in this distant, pristine land is common. They consistently dot the landscape. Often, photographs capture the dramatic scene of a whale’s body in mid-air, plunging into the water, creating a forceful wave. However, Suzanne’s single, 'A Graceful Splash," creates a soothing experience. As the massive creatures gently break through the surface of the water, their movements are commonly dance-like and serene. Their gentle choreography produces an amazing display of whale tails in slow motion, decorating the Antarctic panorama. This extraordinary whale performance is the story behind Suzanne’s new single, 'A Graceful Splash'."
The piece was composed in the key of Bb major (2 flats) and the sheet music is 3 1/2 pages. I proof-read the sheet music and it is as close to the recorded version as is possible.
