I grew up in Oakland, CA in the 50s and 60s, and once I started listening to music on the radio, James Brown was a staple - for decades! He lived a long and very varied life, so this Hourly History bio is mostly an overview and pretends to be nothing more than that. Still, I learned enough about James Brown's life in this book to want to dig deeper into his history, so I found this book very helpful in that regard. It's a brief but very helpful and tantalizing synopsis of a complicated artist's life with some of its major ups and downs. I really enjoyed my time with this book!
