Review by Kathy Parsons
"Humanity's Silent Cry" is an incredibly haunting single by Spanish pianist/composer Alejandro Clavijo that reflects on the dark times that seem to have descended on the whole world. The piece was performed on a felted piano that allows for the sounds of the inner workings of the piano mechanism to become part of the music. There are also some reverb effects that add to the hollow feelings of emptiness and fear. Alejandro had this to say about the creation of the piece:
"'Humanity's Silent Cry' was born out of an improvisation. I sat at the piano and, before I knew it, every note conveyed sadness and pain. These days, bad news surrounds us, the wars, the worst of humanity, and when I stop to reflect, it's hard to find anything positive amid a world in constant decline.
"We live in a selfish society, lacking empathy and dominated by materialism. 'Likes' seem to be worth more than people, and few are willing to do good simply for the sake of it. Nobody wants complications. All that anger, sadness, and despair is reflected in this song."
Despite the darkness and sadness in the music, there is some comfort in knowing that our feelings are shared. It's an amazing piece of music and a work of art that really needs to be heard.
"Humanity's Silent Cry" will be released on Piano Day, March 29, 2025 and will be widely-available to stream and/or download. Links will be added as they become available.
