“Death of a Dream (Reimagined)” is the first release from Matias Bacoñsky’s upcoming
Life and Death (Reimagined) which is a new interpretation of his 2016 solo piano debut,
Life and Death. The story behind the music is about love, loss and the moment everything changes, and this new arrangement adds orchestra, choir and new structural arrangements to create a more cinematic and emotional experience. The piano is still very much in the lead, but the orchestra and choral voices add depth and power to the original piece. Quoting the promotional materials for the single:
“In a single moment, the future collapses. Plans, promises, and a lifetime imagined together fade into silence. Everything that once felt certain becomes fragile and distant. This is the sound of a dream breaking…”
Matias and I did our
second interview a little over a year ago and I asked why he was re-doing his first album:
“I’ve always had a vision of creating a style of music that combines piano with a full orchestra and choir. However, back when I started, I didn’t have the means to hire orchestral arrangers, so I began by releasing piano-only music. I think
Life and Death, my first official album, was a great starting point because it allowed me to express myself in a more minimalistic way, focusing on the emotion that can be conveyed through just a piano. But my love for orchestral music never faded, and with
Epochal, I truly felt I had found my musical identity. The possibility of blending my piano work with orchestral and choral elements felt right at that moment, and I’m so happy to have brought that vision to life.”
Now in his early thirties, the Argentinian composer/pianist has already created a very impressive body of work and I am thoroughly enjoying reviewing his music and (hopefully) helping to get the word out about it!
“Death of a Dream (Reimagined)” is available to download and stream from Amazon, Bandcamp and Apple Music/iTunes as well as many streaming platforms including Spotify and Pandora. Very highly recommended!!!
