Review by Kathy Parsons
As Peter Calandra's ongoing series of singles continues to unfold, I'm even more in awe of his versatility as both a composer and as a pianist. This time out, "A Moment In Stride" is an upbeat yet relaxed piano solo in the stride piano style that arose from ragtime piano and was popularized about a hundred years ago by James P. Johnson, Thomas "Fats" Waller and others. The stride style finds the left hand "striding" up and down the lower half (mostly) of the piano keyboard, setting the rhythm while the right hand dances freely (often improvised), creating its own magic. And Peter does create musical magic with his very nimble fingers and a piece sure to bring a smile. I love it!

"A Moment In Stride" is available from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and streaming sites including Spotify. Don't miss this one!
