Ave Maria (single)
David Lanz & Kristin Amarie
2023 / Hal Leonard
4 pages / 1 song
Review by Kathy Parsons
"Ave Maria" is the sheet music for both singles that David Lanz and Kristin Amarie released recently. They composed the music as a new setting for the classic Latin prayer, and one single features Kristin Amarie's vocals along with choir and orchestra and the second single is an instrumental version for piano, violin and cello. So, the sheet music isn't an exact match for either single, but is a beautiful piano and vocal duet that includes chord charts for other instruments. I need to say that the piano part is lovely by itself, but it is not intended to be played as a solo. The melody line needs to be sung or played with another instrument to get the full intention of the song. (I don't want any pianists reading this to be disappointed!)
The piece is four pages and composed in the key of F# minor (3 sharps). It is not difficult to play, as it is slow and soulful, and there are no reaches of more than an octave. It's a beautiful piece of music and the sheet music is available to download from SheetMusicPlus.com and SheetMusicDirect.com. Both recordings of "Ave Maria" are also reviewed on MainlyPiano.com.
